Giving 2007: One Laptop Per Child

I recently saw Masi Oka in a Got Milk? ad in this month’s issue of Spin magazine (http://tv.popcrunch.com/heroes-masi-oka-got-milk-ad/). For those of you who aren’t familiar with this superb actor who plays a certain Mr. Hiro Nakamura on the fantastic Heroes: this guy is incredible! Read his bio, he is a “hero” in the sense that he is a great role model for youth (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1199811/bio). More importantly, I also saw a TV ad with Masi bringing awareness to the One Laptop Per Child holiday promotion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQbtebeftyA).
For a limited time, One Laptop Per Child will be offering a “Give One, Get One” promotion where for $399 you can purchase a XO laptop for a child in your own life and also donate one to a child in a developing nation. Not only is the $200 gift tax-deductible, you will also receive a year of complimentary T-Mobile HotSpot access( which currently sells for $29.99/month). The program ends November 26: http://www.laptopgiving.org/en/give-one-get-one.php
This is the best Christmas gift ever–wow! The XO laptop got a great review from the New York Times’ techie David Pogue, who was sincerely impressed with its features and usability: http://video.on.nytimes.com/?fr_story=6ffd976ed367bacae4171dd4999d36431c84b0f5
This is not only a great opportunity for children from developing countries, it is also a great opportunity for libraries to provide a kid-friendly computing access to young patrons. Just imagine the possibilities…
